The Chains of Limiting Beliefs

Updated: Nov 17, 2021

The Elephant is а magnificent and powerful creature, often considered sacred and symbolises royalty, strength, good luck and wisdom.

You will agree with me when I say that the elephant is one of the biggest and strongest animals on our earth.

Can you now imagine an elephant with an average height of 3 meters and an average weight of 5000 kg being tied to a tree with a thin rope and not trying to break the rope and make himself free?

Maybe it sounds strange or impossible!

But there’s a story (the author is unknown) that says about

A man who was passing by an elephant when he suddenly stopped. He was amazed and confused that this huge creature wasn’t being kept in a cage or held by any chains. All that was holding the elephant back from escaping the camp, was a small piece of rope tied to one of his legs.

Curious to know the answer, the man asked a trainer nearby why the elephant never tried to escape.

The trainer replied: “When the elephant was young and much smaller we used the same size rope to tie him. The baby elephant was trying to break free but each time when he pulled the rope, he ended up hurting his leg. The bruise, so caused, sometimes even started bleeding.

Over a period of time the young elephant learned not to try at all, as every trial caused pain.

Even now when the elephant has grown up, he still believes that the rope can hold him so that’s the reason he isn’t making any attempt to break the rope.”

How many of us are being held back not by a rope but our belief system?

The Elephant Rope Story is a great metaphor for the limiting beliefs that affect us and control our lives.

Yes, sometimes we hold on to beliefs that we are not good people and do not deserve a Blessing.

Yes, sometimes we set limits that we cannot do something because we failed at it before.

Yes, sometimes trial causes pain and leaves scars.

Yes, sometimes we don't put trust in people because of our self-limiting beliefs, fear and self-restrictions.

But sometimes we should break all these chains. We can start from our inner world and rebuild it; focus on our inner Universe and redesign it. Living in an outer world full of restrictions, it is essential to manage our thoughts and control the beliefs we create in our minds.

No matter how much the world is trying to limit us we can stay free and keep believing that everything we want to achieve is possible. We will never know how far we can go until we have the courage to follow our hearts and do it! And if we fail this time, we should rise up, take our time and try… Again!

Yes, sometimes dreams come true. Because of the trial we decided to do. Once again! One more time!

All we need to do is release the pain and free ourselves from fear, light up a candle and enjoy the brightness!

Try not to place a limit on your inner world, dare to ask and liberate your dreams.

Try not to confine yourself to a life that is full of limits or restrictions!

The decision to feel the light is in your hands!
